Before You Call

Do I need a referral to see a dermatologist?

Yes. A valid referral from your GP or specialist is required to book an appointment and to claim a Medicare rebate. GP referrals are valid for 12 months following initial appointment (not from the date of issue). Specialist referrals are valid for 3 months following initial appointment. Please arrange for your referral to be sent ahead of your appointment via Medical Objects, HealthLink, email or fax. A referral is required for acne clinics.

How long is the wait for an appointment?

Dr Edwina Lamrock:

- General dermatology - books remain closed to new patients as of March 2026.
- Acne - Continues to accept referrals for acne clinics.
Current wait time for routine acne appointments exceed 6 months.

Dr Tom Barrett:
‍
- Mohs surgery - ongoing acceptance of referrals for new and existing patients.
- Urgent referrals – limited spaces now available.
- General dermatology - due to extensive waitlists, currently not able to accept routine referrals for new patients.

Dr Alicia Thornton:

- General and Paediatric dermatology - books remain closed to new patients as of August 2025.
- Acne - due to extended wait times, currently paused accepting new referrals. Given this, we cannot predict when referrals will reopen.

Appointment availability varies by dermatologist. We are a busy specialist practice and wait times depend on clinical urgency. Your referral helps us triage your appointment appropriately.

Please note that cancelling or rescheduling an existing booking may lead to longer wait times, as heavily booked schedules and existing waitlists can make coordinating near appointments difficult to arrange.

Can I book online or by email?

We are unable to provide medical advice via email. Appointments are only arranged by phone. This allows your referral to be reviewed, triaged by clinical urgency, and matched with the appropriate dermatologist.

What should I bring to my appointment?

Medicare card, relevant medical history or pathology results, a list of current medications, and relevant photos of your skin or hair care products. Wear loose, comfortable clothing to assist your dermatologist when examining the areas of concern. See our Patient Information page for a full checklist.

Is there free parking?

Yes. Free onsite parking is available at the rear of the building, including accessible parking. A drop-off bay is available at the front. Street parking and the Hilltop Plaza car park (~250m walk) are also nearby.

What are your fees?

Frontier Dermatology is a private billing practice. A Medicare rebate applies when you have a valid referral. Fee details including consultation costs, cancellation policy, and payment methods are outlined on our Patient Information page. Specific fees are included in our welcome letter, sent via email following the confirmation of an appointment.

We accept card payments, no surgcharge.
We do not accept cash.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

We understand plans change. Please give us as much notice as possible so we can offer your appointment to another patient from our waitlists. Cancellations or no shows within 24–48 hours incur a fee. For cosmetic bookings, 48 hours notice is required to avoid a late cancellation fee. Full cancellation policy details are on our Patient Information page.
